Oh Spring, how we’ve missed you! True, it may not feel like spring just yet, but as of March 20th it was officially a new season so we’re going with it. And what’s the most “spring” thing you can do to welcome the warmer weather? Spring cleaning! (Keep in mind, we didn’t say favorite thing.) But don’t worry, this isn’t a post telling you to give your kitchen a deep clean from top to bottom (that one will come later!). Nope, today we are suggesting just three things to do before the weather really turns and the last place you want to be is in the kitchen cleaning.
1. The Fridge (and Freezer too)
Okay, that’s two things but they’re related. With spring means the farmer’s markets are back and you’re about to have all sorts of fresh produce to load up in your fridge. Plus ice cream and ice pops in the freezer. Make things easier for Future You and make space now. Go through the drawers and shelves and throw out anything that’s past its prime or stuff you know you’re never going to use. Combine containers when possible to create extra room. Then give both the fridge and the freezer a good cleaning. Take out the shelves, empty the ice-maker, and wipe everything down (making sure not to use any product that’s too strong so you don’t have residual odors). Here are a few additional instructions brought to you by GE Appliances for a thorough clean of your refrigerator interior.
2. The Oven
Warmer weather means outdoor grilling and giving your oven a bit of a rest. But don’t let nasty old grease and grime sit inside your oven and get harder (and grosser) for the next few months. Clean that thing now and it’ll be pristine and sparkly when you are ready to fire it up again. Follow your manufacturer’s self-cleaning instructions; here are a few tips from Whirlpool Appliances.
3. The Trashcan
Okay, so this is the dirtiest job on this very small list, but hey, at least you get to do it outside! Get your hose and some soap or spray and clean your trash can, both inside and out. It’s not a fun job, but guaranteed doing so will get rid of that linger smell you’ve been noticing every time you open the lid.
There are plenty of other things we could have included in this list; this is just the bare-minimum to get through on a snowy Saturday morning in April!!. Let us know what your must-do spring cleaning involves! Leave us a comment below or on our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you!
